I'm Not Tired

Margaret is not tired.  She did not need to go to bed.  She absolutely, positively does not need that.  There is no way that she needs to go anywhere near bed.  She promises.  Because she is so far away from tired, it is laughable to think that any sleeping will occur.

She was just thinking.  Quietly.  With her eyes shut.

D-I-Y Chic

Margaret follows the trends in weddings very closely, because she is at a contrary age, and I have been chanting "elope" to her ever since her Aunt Helen got married -- not that it wasn't a beautiful ceremony and reception, but I have a clear understanding of my capabilities, and those aren't them, if you follow, which you shouldn't, because this is a sentence that needs to end immediately if not sooner.

Anyway, when I got back from her cousin Alynn's wedding reception, she wanted to know all about the decorations.  So I told her about the centerpieces, which involved glass beads and flowers and wood and rocks and shells and flowers.  Not all at once, but in separate ones.

So Margaret made one.

I think it's a good try the first time out.  And it was really quick, which means that she'd have lots of time to attend to other issues.

Report Card

The other day, I was cleaning out the bag Margaret brought home from school on the last day, and discovered a piece of paper she had drawn on and then the teacher had captioned, spreading the lie that she liked to go to bed.

I mean, maybe she does enjoy terrorizing her parents for an hour or so, but that's not what is conveyed by her statement and picture.

Among the papers and changes of underwear and whatnot, I found her report card.  Crumpled up.  At the bottom of the bag.  Had she mentioned it existed?  No.

I see the shape of years to come.

Of course, it seems pretty nice, so maybe she wasn't hiding it from us.

Together, They Could Rule the World

And I can guarantee that there would be more chocolate and crayons for everyone, and there probably would be widespread encouragement of graffiti, because that's one of their favorite things.

Although Margaret seems to be trying to instigate some sort of palace coup.  Ellie should watch out.

Evening Walk

One of the constant problems we have with Margaret is getting her tired enough to go to bed.  Or, tired enough that she goes to bed instead of winding herself up into a ball of frantic exhausted energy.  After Ellie goes to bed, Leo has been taking her for a walk or playing in the yard or some such with her.  The other night, he took a picture of her while they were out walking.

She seems to be having a nice walk.

Cookery Lessons

Margaret is missing her Montessori school, by which I mean that she is missing having something organized to do between 9 and 12 every day, and certainly missing all of the practical things that she likes to do.

So a few days ago* we took advantage of Ellie's afternoon nap to cook together.

Margaret inspected the instructions very carefully.

And thought very deeply about them.

Thankfully, she allowed me to interpret them, because she was demanding that we have two different measuring cups because that's what the back said.

Also, her face probably gave it away, but we made brownies, and she thought they were good.

*Well, a few weeks, because it's been a while since I blogged, but it sounds better this way.
