Ellie has done something wonderful for me. She’s allowed me to use a phrase usually used metaphorically in a literal fashion, and it makes me very, very happy.
Here is the baby surveying the world with a slightly jaundiced eye.
And here, with less eye, but more of the sense of what people mean when they speak of surveying things with a jaundiced eye.
And then, with less seeming irritation, but more eye again.
Anyway, although she was slightly jaundiced when she left the hospital, it has resolved itself without any intervention from anyone, and so she has been slowly fading into whatever her natural color is. Her hands and legs are her normal color, but her face, and particularly her eyes, are still a little on the yellow side.
But the important thing is that over the last week, when she has seemed unimpressed with us (as she often has; after all, our house, while certainly more spacious, is not as cuddly and comforting as her previous domicile), I have been able to refer to her as surveying the world with a slightly jaundiced eye, and it’s been true.
And that makes up for the several mornings when we had to take her to hospitals for blood draws and whatnot. Absolutely.
