Spring Training

With the (sudden) coming of warmer weather – seriously, we went from 50 degrees to 80, skipping over the pleasant and salubrious 60s and 70s with little ceremony – we’ve been spending a lot of time in the backyard, which is marvelous, because I can sit somewhere with Ellie and allow Margaret to rampage.

And she does.

This morning we started very, very early.  We went out before 8, and I managed to get Margaret inside for Ellie’s 10 o’clock feeding.

Notice the sunrise in the background.  Also, I think that Ellie feels that it’s too dang early.  But Margaret tried to make it up to her; she brought her some flowers.

Ellie doesn’t think that it’s really suitable recompense.

I’ve been trying to direct her rampages somewhat, and so we’ve gotten out some backyard sort of toys.  One of her favorites is a tee and bat and ball.

See?  There she is hudging the bat.

And the ball.

She’s really getting into trying to hit the ball.  I need to talk to her about bunting and when it’s strategically useful, because she seems to be trying here, and there’s no need.

Her arm’s not very strong yet, and the large balls that they put in the starter tee-ball set are large, which is good if you’re a toddler trying to learn to bat, but bad if you’re a toddler with toddler-sized hands trying to learn to throw.

So right now she just runs the ball to me.

Anyway, I think we’ll make a ball player of her yet.
